Mother of a son with IDD
Orah entered the field of disabilities after her son Brian was born with fragile x syndrome. She has over twenty-five years experience in the area of special education, specifically concerning inclusion of individuals with disabilities in schools and communities.
She was very involved in working with the New Jersey State Department of Education and the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities, working on several state initiative projects, such as the Inclusion Institute and the Positive Behavior Support project. She worked collaboratively as a consultant to many school districts in New Jersey.
In addition she has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the College of New Jersey in the area of special education. Orah has also developed and conducted numerous workshops, both locally and nationally, regarding many issues related to individuals with disabilities. She earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Montclair State University and a Masters in Teaching in Special Education from The College of New Jersey.
Orah is now a member of the Wake County CFAC (Consumer and Family Advisory Committee) and ongoing advocate for individuals with disabilities.
