Creating jobs and advocating for adults with autism and/or IDD in the NC Triangle.
Lack of meaningful opportunities for employment and community integration leads to isolation and exclusion for adults with Autism/IDD. You can help us make a difference!
Nationwide, 1 in 68 Children are born with Autism.
In the NC Triangle, that number is 1 in 58!
The rate of Autism is up 300 % since 2002.
80 % of people with Autism/IDD are either unemployed or underemployed.
A 78% increase in demand for adult services is estimated in the next six years.
Despite its prosperity and well-educated population, the NC Triangle region lacks effective services and opportunities for adults with Autism and/or intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD).
We are looking at a tsunami of increased need and this challenge requires individuals/families, communities/government, and businesses to work on solutions in a collaborative way. Children with Autism/IDD will grow up to be adults and seniors with Autism/IDD, requiring various levels of services and support for the rest of their lives.
The Power of the Dream is an organization that recognizes these challenges and is dedicated to creating meaningful choices and opportunities for this population.
Through advocacy, education and empowerment, we can create a better future for this population.
